Once the test expires, re-write the online exam without attending the course again. Pass mark is 80%. A total of 5 metrics are used to produce a score, which in turn, predicts risk associated with a specific contractor. 2 of the metrics are, test done by individual(s) and installations listed with AREP. The lower the score the higher the risk. The Company accreditation is R2 500 and billed annually. Company Accreditation Benefits: Listed as preferred installers on the AREP Website. | Share your views, We were asked what our opinion regarding ETSP and the installation of PV, Inverters and Battery systems is. In the upcoming weeks we will be publishing an article and we welcome your feedback and look forward to seeing you all join the movement to reform and grow the professionalism and formal industry of the electrical sector of South Africa. The big discussion point here is to understand the difference between an IE and an ETSP as it isn’t simply the ability to work on single or three phase electrical supplies. Lets start with the regulations: 1) A “registered person” means a person registered in terms of (a) regulation 11; or (b) regulation 9 of the Electrical Installation Regulations,1992, as an electrical tester for single phase, an installation electrician or a master installation electrician, as the case may be; 2) Any natural person who satisfies the chief inspector that he or she a)has sufficient knowledge of the rules applicable to electrical installations in the category for which the application is being made; and b) has appropriate practical experience in respect of the electrical installation, verification and certification of the construction, testing and inspection of the type of electrical installation for which application is being made, shall be registered as an electrical tester for single phase, an installation electrician, or a master installation electrician, as he case may be. Now lets look at ETSP versus IE contractor registration: Electrical Tester for Single Phase ETSP:Electrical installations supplied by a single-phase electricity supply at the “point of control”, excluding specialised electrical installations. Installation Electrician IE:”Any electrical installation”, excluding specialised electrical installations. The wording was purposely very specific to ensure that the training was represented In the work that each group is capable of performing. Ultimately professionals need to be trained in a topic and then gain experience, through apprenticing with someone already qualified. We have heard many discussions on other reasons for and against, however, the simple truth is an IE is trained in DC and an ETSP is not (albeit we could argue there could be a wider range of content in that training). Could we have specifically DC trained people ETSPs? Not with the current legislation defining how an ETSP can operate. The legislation would have to read “any single phase supply and installation”.
